The most common moment of unexpected sadness at Walt Disney World: a child who's been looking forward to a specific ride discovering at the entrance that they're not tall enough. It's avoidable with 10 minutes of research before the trip.

How Disney World enforces height requirements

Height requirements at Walt Disney World are a safety standard, not a guideline. Cast members use official measurement boards at attraction entrances. If your child doesn't meet the requirement, they won't be allowed on the ride.

Measure at home before your trip. Being a quarter-inch under a requirement is a hard discovery to make at the ride entrance. Measure in the morning — spinal compression from walking can reduce height slightly over a long park day.

40 inches unlocks Tiana's Bayou Adventure, Test Track, Soarin', Rise of the Resistance, and Tower of Terror.

44 inches unlocks Space Mountain, Avatar Flight of Passage, and Expedition Everest — including the best ride at Walt Disney World.

48 inches is required for TRON and Rock 'n' Roller Coaster.

Rider Switch

When a child can't meet a height requirement, tell the cast member you'd like Rider Switch. Parent A rides with the group while Parent B waits with the child. When Parent A returns, Parent B gets a return pass and boards immediately through the Lightning Lane entrance — no re-queuing. The teenager or older child can ride twice. The waiting child waits once total.
